"Reenactment of the Historical Hukilau"

I got forced to get up and do the Hukiliu dance. It was fun once I got up.

Great fire dancer only 10 yrs old.

Scott and I with the little Hukilau dancers.

Underground roasted pig. Yummy for me not for Scott.

One fish caught at the Hukilau.

Sick!!!

Scott helping with the Hukilau

Just before dinner.

hukilau is a way of fishing invented by the ancient Hawaiians. The word comes from huki, meaning pull, and lau, meaning leaves. A large number of people, usually family and friends, would work together in casting the net from shore and then pulling it back. The net was lined with ki leaves, which would help scare the fish into the center of the net. A Hawaiian phrase for a party on the beach. It's like saying "barbecue" to a Texan.

We had a great time and the food was so good!!
